Hi,

sorry, but I have another problem. Hope it can be resolved easily.

I have entered around 3000 jpeg photos in the database and transferred them to offline DVDs, everything is working fine, now that I am entering DNG photos, step 5 bellow does nothing: I Choose “Move Data Only (to files that exist)” from the menu, but I am not asked to overwrite the existing data record.

The result is: no data is transferred to the offline files.

2.9.1.1 Moving Data from Online to Offline

5.        Move the data to Offline images.  Drag your images/folders from their Online location to the newly created Offline folders in the tree.  Choose “Move Data Only (to files that exist)” from the menu.  You should be asked if you want to overwrite the existing data record, to which you should choose “Yes to All”.

I tried this with DNG files and it worked just fine.  Are you sure you were drag and dropping file from the online folder and dropping them to the corresponding offline folder?  If you are sure of this please provide a little more details on what you did and/or potentially a screenshot showing your online and offline folders.

Best regards,
Glenn

As I thought of what might go wrong I had a sentence added to the user guide:

"Its important to copy the files correctly: either copy images from the online folder directly to the offline folder, or copy the online folder to the offline folder’s parent folder (the mistake sometimes being made is copying of the online folder into the same offline folder, which creates a duplicate folder)."

Might this have been the problem?

Hi Glenn,

as I said above, I have done this offline transfer 3000 times with JPG files and it worked, so here are the images for the procedure I do.

Before  the procedure
Before  the procedure
The selection
Where it is draged
The result

All the folders in Photo0003 preciding 2009-09-10 contain JPG files and the transfer worked perfectly.

All the photos in 2009-09-10 and following folders contain DNG files and the transfer does not work.

To be sure that nothing happened to the program, I re-installed it,
than burned another DVD from the photos in the computer,
deleted the offline folder Photo0003,
reloaded  DVD Photo0003 to offline,
proceded to transfer data from online to offline as showned above everything works till I get to the DNG folders.

Hope this clarifies where I gooffed

Best regards,
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

Some of your descriptions appear to belong to something that would have a screenshot or something along with it so they are not very clear.  As in:

Before  the procedure
Before  the procedure
The selection
Where it is draged
The result

If you could clarify it might help.  You can also send me an email with attachment if that's easier: grogers@grrsystems.com

You might try adding DNG files in your folder which has JPG files just as a test.  So when you did the move from online to offline you could see if the jpg files come across but not the DNG files (although I would thing the DNG files would also).  I've done some tests and can't seem to see how DNG files get missed.  I dragged online photo files do the offline folder (also tried an online folder to the offline parent folder) and all worked fine.  There is something you are doing to cause the problem you are having but I can't see what it is!  Sorry about that, I wish I could.

To insert images into a folder you may do EITHER of the following:
1) drag and drop them to an online folder (this doesn't work with offline folders, since offline like CD/DVD would have a static number of files).  Drop them onto either a tree folder or the thumbnails view.
2) add images to the folder using any program, such as Windows Explorer, and go to that folder in DBGallery (it will auto re-sync that folder if new images are found).

Best regards,
Glenn
